Guide for collecting stool samples for colon
Your stool (faeces) sample must be put in a clean, preferably sterile, container.
You will be needing 3 containers just for the stool samples.
Each container must be labeled with your name and date.
The stool samples in the container must be stored in a sealed plastic bag and kept in the fridge till you can hand all three over to the laboratory staff.
The stools must not fall in the water or touch the side of the bowl. Use paper or a plastic (washed) food container that has not contained meat.
The sample should be the size of an olive. Use a plastic spatula to pick the sample.
Samples should be handed in as soon as possible.
WHEN NOT TO SPEAK
Try not to talk to the doctor when he/she can not hear you.
The phonendoscope allows us to hear physiological and pathological noises in the patient we are exploring, but it does not let us hear much of what is going on in the surrounding areas.
You never know if the words you use when you describe the symptoms, and the doctor is wearing the stethoscope, are going to be keywords needed for the diagnosis, so do not take the risk of speaking when the doctor can not hear you.
